Since I know many of you miscreants here share an equal fondness for the humor of the surreal and absurd as I do, I must make quick mention that it was 40 years ago TODAY that a certain troupe of British fellows began broadcasting fish-slapping dances, silly walks from the Ministry of same, Upper-class Twit of the Year competitions and notices from the Royal Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things.

That's right, kids....Monty Python's Flying Circus debuted this day on the BBC 40 years ago and no one who's seen it has really been the same since.

Remember: No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

When you hear Larry the Cable Guy compare people at Wal-Mart to the "Ministry of Silly Walks" Then you can understand the wide influence Monty Python had.

One of my schools (a K-12 school) has a drama club that does a Monty Python fundraiser every year. it has grown by leaps and bounds and this last year we had to do 4 performances, all sold out. High school kids still find Python hysterical. The crowning jewel of my educational career was closing the performance by doing the pet shop sketch (dead parrot) and a rendition of the Lumberjack Song joined by the entire high school cast. One of the proudest times of my life. Was able to see Spamalot in London with some of the seniors a couple of years ago and what a phenomenal experience. As silly and profound today as it was 40 years ago!

A lot of Python has been showing this weekend, including some documentaries and interviews (with hilarious stories about how the TV show got started, and behind the scenes while they were making the movies).

When I was just a lad, my favorite Python sketches were "I'd like to license my bee"(Eric the half-a-bee Song) and "I'm here for an argument".

Goofy stuff.
